Brett has told on Twitter that the first single off the new album will be "It Starts and Ends With You" hopefully in february.

He also said that the closing four songs of the album are in the Dog Man Star vein and the rest of it is Black Rainbows/Coming Up.

About the album title he mentioned he almost called it "Fugue State" but decided on something better.

The album is currently being mixed by Andy Wallace in New York.

There's a short interview with Brett and Mat on this week's NME and also some song titles from the new album are mentioned: the opening song will be 'Barriers' and the final track will be 'Faultlines'. Other songs are 'Snowblind', 'Hit Me' and some titles already known like 'It Starts And Ends With You', 'Sometimes I Feel I'll Float Away', 'For The Strangers' and 'Sabotage'

Brett:
"I think on the last two records we were trying to reinvent ourselves and it didn't work. With this one we've been a bit more instinctive about it, just written some songs and played them and gone with it a bit more. It's not so much a back-to-basics approach as trying not to overthink it."
"The back catalogue casts a very big shadow, that's why lots of bands don't come back and make records. It's been hard, there's been a lot of soul-searching, but I feel genuinely confident that this album can be appraised for its merits."

Mat:
"There was always, in a sense, an idea that we'd taken a wrong turn after 'Coming Up. This isn't an attempt to rewrite the first three albums, but we're thinking: if we'd been more clued up and less flaky, if we hadn't fucked up, where would we have gone?. We've always said we've made two debut albums - the actual debut, and 'Coming Up' when Richard joined. This kind of feels like a third one..."

11th september 2012

Brett talked to The Quietus about the recording of the new album:

"We've been working on the new Suede album, which has been really exciting. We've been writing for the last year, and recording on and off. We recorded one session in May, and we've got another at Sarm studios for a few weeks this month.

I've been loving the recording. Any album is brutally hard, and this one has been pretty hard. The first couple of months were us trying to get on the same wavelength, is this working, trying to develop the sound we wanted. A lot of the writing process for me is throwing stuff away, because you're finding out what you want to do. There was a lot of that, and we discarded quite a few songs. Early this year we started hitting on the sort of songs that we were aiming to write, and it's sounding really good now.

Without wishing to be facetious, it sounds like Suede. We're not trying to reinvent the sound of the band, that'd be a disastrous thing to do. It's about great songs, it's about great guitar hooks, it's about a very powerful band sound. So it sounds like Suede. It sounds like a cross between bits of Dog Man Star and bits of Coming Up. It's not as light as Coming Up, not la la la hooky, though there's pop moments. Ed Buller is a real fan of pop music that really connects, the [Marc] Bolan sound, so it's edging in the big pop chorus direction. It feels like it's going to be good."

11th july 2012

Brett talked to NME about the two new songs played at the Hop Farm Festival:

"Sabotage" isn't a real rocker but it's not that mellow either -it's mid-tempo. It's quite ´80s indie in its darkness, akin to The Cure or Joy Division and that kind of stuff, quite slow and very athmospheric. It's maybe the one on the new album that stands out on its own".

"For the Strangers" it's a swaying, languid thing that rocks, too. If it's referencing any previous Suede material, it's the first three records. We've worked with Ed Buller, who produced those records. The world wanted us to work with a hip, new producer, but it was always going to be him".
